Southwark Cathedral

Southwark Cathedral

Over 1,000 years old, this Anglican parish has survived the mark of time through the Great Fire of 1212 and the rule of Queen Mary, along the way housing births like John Harvard (founder of Harvard University) and the condemning of deaths like Bishop of Gloucester.

Until stumbling upon this seemingly hidden treasure when leaving the Borough Market, it’s existence was completely unbeknownst to me. If I had a dime for every time I turned a corner to find similarly breath-taking testaments to history, I could probably pay for the student loans that got me here. So let this serve as a foreshadowing of blogs to come; blogs that will expose some of London’s hidden treasures, highlight it’s incredible cultural diversity, and share what student life is like for this American across the pond.
